The Ethos Foundation is organising on Thursday 10 June a 100% online conference-debate open to all on the risks associated with climate change for investor. The event takes place three days before the Swiss population votes on the Federal Act on the Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (CO2 Act). The main means of action and the consequences of the new law for investors will also be a discussion topic.

Climate change has become a major component of socially responsible investment and a growing concern for investors. It does not only encompass new investment opportunities, linked to the energy transition, the development of renewable energies and behavior change, but also new physical and financial risks for companies and, consequently, their shareholders.

The conference, which will be held on Thursday 10 June at 1:30 p.m. on the sidelines of the 24th annual general meeting of the Ethos Foundation, will bring together a panel of Swiss and international experts. It aims to raise investors' awareness of climate risks, present effective ways to take them into account and respond to them and to detail Switzerland's political response to climate change and its consequences for investors. It is mainly intended for representatives of pension funds but remains open to anyone interested in this topic.

Ethos is particularly pleased to welcome Mark Campanale, the founder of Carbon Tracker and a leading specialist in "stranded assets". He is also known for having conceived the "unburnable carbon" capital market thesis which refers to fossil fuel energy sources (reserves and/or resources) that physically cannot be burned if the world is to adhere to any given temperature outcome. The national councilor Susanne Vincenz-Stauffacher, who is a member of the environment and energy committee, will then present Switzerland's legislative response to limit climate change. Sabine Döbeli (Swiss Sustainable Finance), Adam Rose (Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change) and David Engel (Aargauische Pensionkasse) will finally join them for a panel discussion.

This event will take place three days before the crucial federal vote on the revision of the CO2 Act, which should allow Switzerland to halve its carbon emissions by 2030 (compared to 1990). and thus achieve the objectives of the Paris Agreement. The Ethos Foundation has already spoken publicly in favor of the new law. "This revision constitutes a new important and necessary step in the fight against global warming," emphasizes Rudolf Rechsteiner, president of the Ethos Foundation. It will establish a clear and effective legal framework to encourage investment and thus the transition to a more sustainable economy."
